Photos Tell Stories
There were days when we were kids, at night we used to gather at a place in veranda, mostly the moonlit area, or one small source of light. In such a warm and enthralling back-drop the many stories were told and heard. Some of them were experiences, some were life instances, and some were kind of tour or picnic narrations.
This was a common practice back then, all over. People enjoyed telling stories. At someplaces they gathered around campfires, at some places they sat around dining table, some places in Temple mandaps, somewhere on Nukkad, Chouraha. But the joy of sharing stories was the same - stories were told and heard passionately.
The one who told stories - re-lived them, those who heard felt, imagined and they also lived those stories.
As days passed .. these gatherings reduced, this form of story telling reduced. Culture, communities shaped these gatherings differently. Technology brought people on social Media Platforms. New ways of story telling emerged.
Photography has been one of the oldest form of such 'story-telling'.
A good photograph carries a story with it. And when i say a story- it means- the emotions, the feelings, the memories, the mood, and the ambiance. Some of the The successfully captured photographs created the 'weather' also for the viwer.! and this statement is not an exasration. Because have we not felt rain, heat, fog and chill in some of such photographs ?!?
I feel the contentment when i get comments in the form of lines from movie songs. If my photograph makes even one of my viwer remembee some movie, some song then i say i have created a good photograph.
Photograph should always relate to viewers. It also some times astonishes, some time it makes one curious.
I also have expericed many a times a feeling of nonbelief through their expressions.
Like - "is that for real ! i mean..seriously ?!"
Thats also makes a successful photograph.
Understand and know this- The photo that went unnoticed has a lot of work to do on it-
and the photograph that generates stories, feeling, mood, memories, ambiance and weather is a work weldone! however blurry the shot is.( !!)
Thats why I feel like stating- 'Success of photograph is not being Technically perfect , but lies in its story telling.
well, Your knowledge of photography technics do matter the most in 'capturing' what you want to convey! but successful narration ultimately depends on your 'story-telling shot'.
Well, that brings me to the topic What elements can make your photograph a 'story telling shot'..which i will discuss in my next blog.
Till then keep clicking and capturing frames- probably you do not even need a camera for that!
good luck, chaw!
